一男一女陸客8月31日在泰國北攬府的邦波區（Bang Bo）街頭，被一名騎著腳踏車的當地男子持刀搶劫，兩人拼命反抗，仍抵不過劫匪揮刀亂斬，其中男遊客前額嚴重刀傷，女遊客右耳根被劃出一大道傷口，血濺街頭。事後警方逮捕一名26歲的男子，該男子聲稱把兩人誤認為幫派成員，才會把他們砍傷。
邦波距離泰國首都曼谷約50公里，並非旅遊熱點。31日凌晨時分，27歲的周柳（音譯，Zhou Liu）和28歲的楊霞（音譯，Yang Xia）正在走回酒店的路上，突然遭到騎腳踏車的男子搶劫。監視器畫面顯示，劫匪殺傷2人後迅速騎腳踏車逃離，幸而一名計程車司機剛好經過，替他們報警。
當地警方事後逮捕了一名26歲男子Paisarn Huangmak，男子承認用長刀把兩名中國遊客砍傷。他聲稱襲擊不是為了搶劫，而是把二人誤認幫派成員才會施襲。目前他面臨多項指控，包括偷盜致人受傷以及非法在公共區域持武器等。
據央視報導，中國駐泰國大使館高度重視，即時向當地警方了解情況並提出交涉，要求泰國依法嚴懲凶手，還給受害者公道。
